EXCLUSIVE: Invermere man spending 24 hours a week traveling for dialysis treatment

An Invermere man is spending three days a week in his car, traveling to another city for dialysis treatment.

Kirt Sellers, who is in his early 50s, is awaiting a kidney transplant. He is on leave from his job as a Health Inspector at Interior Health.

He’s on the transplant list and should receive a transplant in a few years.

But Seller is forced to drive from his home in Invermere to Cranbrook, three times a week to receive dialysis treatment, an eight hour round trip.

In question period in the Legislature today, B.C. Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid said the majority of people have in-home dialysis and that Interior Health has gone to great efforts to address the issue.

Seller says the almost daily road trips for treatment are not sustainable and are impacting his lifestyle.
