IHIT confirms the body found on Sunday in a rural area of Surrey is 29-year-old Amritpal Saran of Delta.
Surrey RCMP say Saran is known to police but has no gang affiliations. At this point in the investigation, the reasons for the homicide remain a mystery.
“Just over 24-hours into this investigation, IHIT investigators and the Surrey RCMP are beginning the task of tracing the last days and hours of Saran’s life in an effort to determine the motive and who is responsible for his death,” says IHIT Corporal Adam MacIntosh.
Investigators were called to the scene in the 12100-block Colebrook Road just after noon on Sunday.
“Initial details and observations by the attending officers indicate that this is a homicide. The fact that the body was burned is making it difficult for investigators to get information including age and gender,” says IHIT spokesperson Corporal Bari Emam.
Last month, a man’s body was found murdered two blocks away on the same road. Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area this morning is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
