One woman is dead after she ran into oncoming traffic in the South Okanagan.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, witnesses say a woman ran into traffic on Highway 97 in the Gallagher Lake area in Oliver.
The woman ran into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and died as a result of her injuries.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk with the South East District says the woman was 46 years old and from Oliver. He adds that it has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol were in the victim’s system.
The 69-year-old driver of the Impala cooperated with police. RCMP say drugs or alcohol were not factors in the driver’s condition. No charges have been laid against the driver.
The highway was closed for a short period as a traffic collision reconstruction analyst examined the scene.
The roadway is two lanes and has no light posts.
RCMP need your help to piece together the victim’s timeline leading up to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-499-2250 or their local detachment.
