30 years since the disappearance of Chilliwack girl Jo-Anne Pedersen

Three decades ago, 10-year-old Jo-Anne Pedersen went missing.

On February 19, 1983, at about 8:20 p.m., Jo-Anne was last seen in a phone booth at the Penny Pinchers, a convenience store that was located at the corner of Watson Road and Vedder Road in Chilliwack.

She made a call from the phone booth asking her parents to pick her up because she was locked out of the house.

By the time her parents arrived at the store Jo-Anne was gone and has not been seen or heard from since.

Police say witnesses at the time reported that a man was in the phone booth with Jo-Anne. Police have never been able to identify this man who police believe was trying to help her.

Chilliwack RCMP have received three anonymous letters since the 25th anniversary from a man who claims to be a witness to the events leading up to the disappearance of the little girl. Police say it is imperative to identify this witness so they can speak with him.

Jo-Anne’s mother, Angela Reilly, still holds out hope that her daughter is alive. Her life has never been the same since Jo-Anne went missing. She thinks about Jo-Anne every day and wonders what happened to her.

“The police are still receiving information on this ongoing investigation,” says Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth. “Investigators are hopeful that we will soon know the truth regarding what happened to Jo-Anne so we can give her mother and family closure.”

If you have any information on this investigation or these letters you are asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
