17-year-old in hospital after collision on Highway 28

SMOKY LAKE- A 17-year-old male is in hospital after a collision northeast of Edmonton.

The collision happened around 11:30 Sunday morning, on Highway 28, approximately one kilometre west of the town of Smoky Lake.

RCMP say the man, who is from Waskatenau, was heading west on the highway when he pulled out to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with a snow plow.

STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene. The man was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton where he was treated for critical injuries.

The driver of the snow plow was not injured.

Officers say speed, improper passing and road conditions are believed to be factors in the collision.

Smoke Lake is located approximately 120 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
