Southern Ontario expected to receive 5 to 15 cm of snow by Christmas morning

For those hoping for a white Christmas this year, you’re in luck.

Residents in most of southern Ontario will see a white Christmas as a low-pressure system is expected to bring five to 15 centimetres of snow by Monday morning. Toronto and the surrounding GTA possibly receiving between 15 and 20 centimetres, according to an Environment Canada statement.

“A Texas low is gathering strength this morning and will race towards us approaching the speed of Rudolph later today. It will transport snow into Southern Ontario beginning [Sunday] afternoon,” the statement said, adding the snow will intensify later in the evening, especially in the GTA where a “snowfall warning is in effect.”

“While the winter wonderland will be lovely to see come Christmas Day, it could contribute to challenging travelling conditions for those visiting family and friends over the holidays.”
