He says while the grow operation was medium in scale, it is considered sophisticated.

“Typically when we see those types of equipment utilized it is sophisticated in nature.”

Savage believes the operation had been running in the home for several months. He says officers rely heavily on tips from area residents when it comes to these types of operations, so it’s important they know what to look for.

“On the rear of the house there’s extensive melting around specific vents that are different from the neighbouring houses, as well this house, during the course of the investigation, displayed extensive amounts of moisture on the exterior of the siding which other houses did not have. Additionally, there were several layers of plastic and sheeting inside the windows that were unusual and dripping in condensation,” Savage explained.

“It’s really about educating the public, creating the awareness and eliminating the hazards that these operations present to the community. That’s really our number one goal here, is to eliminate these operations because of their hazards,” he added.

Savage says the person they believe is responsible for the grow operation is already in police custody on an unrelated matter.
