The case was back in court on Friday with the woman’s lawyer and her family and friends in attendance, while the accused remained in custody at the Vanier institution for medical treatment.

“She has great support in the community, including from the embassy, from her pastor, from her family and her friends,” lawyer John Struthers told reporters outside the Finch Avenue courthouse on Friday.

Toronto police said the 34-year-old woman, a man, and a baby were in a condo in the city’s west end near Sherway Gardens mall when the woman and man got into an argument.

Officers managed to arrest the woman and she is facing five charges including attempted murder, two counts of uttering death threats, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

Police had said the baby remains in hospital in critical condition, but the suspect’s lawyer said the infant has been upgraded to stable.

Struthers said the case is far from what is seems and that the facts will come out in the course of the police investigation.

“The facts at this point is very much in the air,” Struthers said. “I can assure you the original story is being fully investigated.”

The accused is back in court for a bail hearing on Dec. 20.
