Man arrested by Halifax police after barricading himself at Fairview home for hours

Halifax Regional Police have arrested and charged a man after a standoff in a Fairview neighbourhood that lasted about eight hours on Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to a residence on Evans Avenue at 2:45 a.m. to a report of a disturbance. According to police, it was reported that a man had assaulted a woman and a male youth. All three people know each other.

There was a heavy police presence outside the home as officers tried to persuade the man to leave the home. According to police, the man refused to leave and threatened them.

A man could be seen crouched outside an upper-floor window on a roof while yelling at police.

Traffic was been closed between Ford and Titus streets and police were asking people to avoid the area.

At around 11 a.m., police obtained a warrant and entered the home using a battering ram and arrested a 46-year-old man.

Dana Matthew Wolfe has been charged with four counts of uttering threats, two counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest.

He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Tuesday.
