Elderly man on scooter dies after being struck by concrete mixer on Edmonton street

An 82-year-old man who was struck by a truck while on his motorized scooter Wednesday afternoon has died of his injuries.

Just before 1 p.m., the man was seen crossing the street southbound on 97 Street at 114 Avenue when he was struck by a concrete mixer, police said.

He was treated on scene and taken to hospital by EMS where he died.

“The male was leaving his residence at the time of the collision,” EPS spokesperson Noreen Remtulla said.

Edmonton police continue to investigate.

Charges are pending against the man driving the concrete-mixing truck.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call police at 780-423-4567.

“Pedestrian safety is paramount both for the pedestrians and for the motorists,” Remtulla said. “My message is to look out for one another.”
