Nearly $23,000 has gone missing from a band fundraising account at a Kelowna school and now a parent is charged with theft, fraud and uttering forged documents.
RCMP say a 47-year-old Kelowna woman is charged after the money was discovered missing from the Okanagan Mission Secondary School band parents’ program fundraising account for 2010-2011. The account was maintained by parents outside the school to support the band program.
Kelowna RCMP received a report in February 2012 that the money was missing after the account showed unauthorized activity.
An investigation showed that 37 cheques amounting to $22,894.12 had been forged between May 2010 and August 2011.
RCMP say former treasurer Elizabeth Sherwood was identified as a suspect early in the investigation. She will appear in court on May 12.
