A woman who accused Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct spoke to NBC News’ Today Show Monday, detailing the events that took place in 1979 — and how her life has changed since she spoke out publicly about the assault.

Leigh Corfman explained that she first met Moore while she was at a courthouse with her mother. Moore later called and asked her to meet him.

“I met him around the corner from my house, my mother did not know,” the 52-year-old said. “I was a 14-year-old child trying to play in an adult’s world and he was 32 years old.”

Corfman, who first spoke to The Washington Post about the alleged incident, said Moore laid out blankets on the floor of his living room on their second meeting.

“During the course of that, he removed my clothing, he came back in wearing his white underwear, he touched me under my clothing and he tried to get me to touch him as well,” Corfman said, adding that she then told Moore she was uncomfortable and he drove her home.

She did not meet or speak with him again.

Speaking out about her experience feels like a “weight has been lifted,” Corfman said on the morning show.

“I’ve had a lot of people that have come out and have said that because of my courage, they’re able to do the same,” she said.

But she has also faced criticism and accusations that she kept the allegations silent for years and only spoke out for money.

While on the Today Show, Corfman said the newspaper sought her out and she was not paid.

“My bank account has not flourished. If anything, it’s gone down because I’m not working.”

Corfman added that while she recently spoke publicly about the alleged assault, it wasn’t a secret from family and friends.

“It’s very simple, really — I did tell people,” she said, explaining that her family, friends and children knew.

Moore, a former state Supreme Court justice twice removed from office, has denied the accusations and pledged to remain in the Senate race set to take place on Dec. 12.

At least eight other women have come forward with sexual assault and harassment allegations against Moore, dating back several years.
