Multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Kingston leaves 1 dead and 5 injured

A man has died and five people are injured following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near the Westbrook overpass in Kingston.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, a total of four vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened just after 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police say the deceased male, the driver of a black Dodge Journey, was outside his SUV when he was struck by an approaching vehicle. The incident resulted in a chain reaction with two more vehicles.

The name of the deceased male is being withheld until next of kin notification. .

Five people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 401 eastbound from County Road 6 to Gardiners Road was closed as investigators were on scene.

All lanes reopened at 6 p.m.

Anyone who witnessed the collisions are urged to contact the Frontenac Detachment of the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
