Santa’s Parade of Lights will once again be making its way through downtown Edmonton later this month, but the route is a little different than previous years.

This year, the parade floats will be making a straight shot down Jasper Avenue, between 100 and 105 Streets.

As a result, Jasper Avenue between 100 Street and 108 Street will be closed to traffic starting at 5:30 p.m., until the parade is over. The staging area – Jasper Avenue between 97 and 100 Streets – will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Traffic is expected to be slow-moving between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. as the parade disperses on 108 Street between Jasper Avenue and 100 Avenue.

The closures will also result in bus detours along Jasper Avenue between 100 Street and 108 Street.

Parking along the parade route will be closed starting Saturday at 5 a.m. Parkades and surface lots will still be available, but access in and out of lots along the parade route will be limited between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Organizers urge anyone attending to think about taking transit. Both the Central and Corona LRT stations are located along the parade route.

The 2017 parade is taking place on Nov. 18 and is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Organizers say the parade will last about 45 minutes.

The parade is entirely outdoors, so those attending are urged to check the weather forecast before heading out.
