The Edmonton Eskimos will battle the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL West semi-final on Sunday, Nov. 12, at Investors Group Field after defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 28-13 on Saturday night.
The Eskimos scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure the team’s fifth consecutive victory heading into the playoffs.
Quarterback Mike Reilly ran in three touchdowns and broke the Eskimos team record for passing yards in a single season with 5,830. Reilly was 21 of 27 for 294 yards passing.
“This is playoff type football. That’s how you’ve got to win games,” he said. “You’ve got to figure out a way to get it done. Our guys did that tonight. Couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Cornerback Aaron Grymes feels they’re in a good groove at the moment.
“You know we definitely have momentum,” Grymes said. “I think we’re clicking on all phases right now; that’s offence, defence and special teams. You know we’ve got a lot of energy.
“We believe, we’ve got the faith, you know we’ve got the talent, and think we’re putting it all together at the right time.”
Head Coach Jason Maas said it will be challenge facing the Bombers in next week’s West semi-final. The Eskimos haven’t been able to pull out a win against the Manitoba team.
“You have to protect the ball against them. That’s first and foremost. And then, obviously, play disciplined against them. And at the end of the day it comes down to controlling the line of scrimmage on both side of the ball against them,” Maas said. “They have a great D-Line, they have a great O-Line. So you have to be able to assert your dominance in those respects. And then its football and you’ve got to make more plays then them.”
The matchup against the Bombers will be heard live on CISN Country 103.9 FM, with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m., and the kickoff at 2:30 p.m.
