1 dead in Rivière-des-Prairies shooting

A 48-year-old man is dead in what police say is the 20th homicide of 2017 on Montreal police territory.

Montreal police received a call about a shooting in a Rivière-des-Prairies commercial building on 55th Avenue near La Martinière around 12 a.m. Friday morning.

When police arrived they found a 48-year-old man behind the wheel of his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later died of his injuries.

Montreal police major crimes unit was investigating, a canine unit and a forensics team were also brought in to help the investigation.

“Investigators will be looking at security camera footage and talking to witnesses,” said Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

“The victim was known to police for violent activities.”

No arrests were made, police were searching for a suspect Friday morning.
