Environment Canada issued a wind warning early Monday morning for Montreal and several regions of Quebec as s a storm system makes its way across the province.
High winds were already causing power outages and the The New Frontiers School Board in the Montérégie announced that two of its schools — Franklin Elementary and Hemmingford Elementary — were closed Monday morning due to a lack of electricity.

As of six a.m. Hydro Québec tweeted that 50 of its crews were on the ground working to restore power to more than 187,000 clients in affected areas.
The hardest hit regions include the Montérégie where close to 50,000 clients were without electricity as of 7:30 a.m., followed by the Laurentians (28,815 clients) and the Lanaudière region (25 518).

Winds are expected to intensify Monday afternoon, with gusts expected to reach up to 90 kilometres per hour, which could cause tree branches to snap and loose objects to toss around.
In Montreal, down trees have been reported and some 600 homes are without power.
