Kingston hit with rainfall warning
Between 50 to 100 millimeters of rain could hit Kingston and parts of southeastern Ontario by Monday morning. But in Kingston, some were making the most of a soggy situation – Oct 29, 2017

Walking trails Lemoine’s Point and Lake Ontario Park are typically go-to weekend destinations for Kingstonians — but not on Sunday. An Environment Canada rainfall warning issued Sunday morning for Kingston and parts of southeastern Ontario predicts up to 50 millimetres of rain or more by Monday.

“Looks like the bulk of that is going to be in 24 hours,” Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority’s Water Resources Technologist, Shawn Fairbank said. “So that certainly has impacts, especially in urban areas.”

Fairbank adds that fall rainstorms are nothing new, but homeowners should keep an eye out whenever they happen.

The concentrated amounts of rainfall could lead to localised flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

“Just because they have less ability to absorb the rainfall to infiltrate it,” Fairbank said. “So, it’s more likely to run off from hard-surfaced areas. And those urban creeks will see the impact.”

Thermometers in Kingston read about 6C on Sunday. A month from now, it should be much lower and Environment Canada could be issuing the dreaded snowfall warning instead.
