‘The Crown’ casts new Queen Elizabeth for Season 3
A new royal will wear The Crown for Season 3 and 4 of the Netflix series.
Actress Olivia Colman will play Queen Elizabeth for the third and fourth seasons of the award-winning series about the British monarch’s long reign.
Publicists for the show confirmed Friday that Colman will star, taking over from Claire Foy.
Foy won a Golden Globe this year for portraying the young Elizabeth, thrust into the role of Queen by the death of her father King George VI in 1952.
She has said that Season 2, due for release in December, will be her last.
Fans of the show took to Twitter to welcome Colman to the series.

Season 3, taking Elizabeth into the 1960s, is expected in 2019.
The series, which began its timeline in 1947 and is expected to continue into the present day, will likely see more Elizabeths cast before reaching its series finale.
Season 2 of The Crown will focus on the Queen’s marriage and on a crumbling empire. It will also see the return of Matt Smith as Prince Philip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. Matthew Goode joins the show as Margaret’s husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.
Season two of The Crown arrives to Netflix on Dec. 8.
