Season 3, taking Elizabeth into the 1960s, is expected in 2019.
The series, which began its timeline in 1947 and is expected to continue into the present day, will likely see more Elizabeths cast before reaching its series finale.
Season 2 of The Crown will focus on the Queen’s marriage and on a crumbling empire. It will also see the return of Matt Smith as Prince Philip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. Matthew Goode joins the show as Margaret’s husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.
Season two of The Crown arrives to Netflix on Dec. 8.
