University of Regina to host CIS championships

Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced Monday that the
University of Regina will play host to the 2013 CIS Women's Basketball
Championship and the 2014 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship at the
Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The U of R will be hosting women's basketball nationals for the third
time in history, while 2014 will mark the first time that the school has
hosted the women's volleyball championship.

"Given the national interest in these events, it's a tremendous honour
to have the opportunity to host two championships in the coming years,"
University of Regina athletic director Dick White said. "It's a strong
endorsement of our athletic program and the history of hosting
exceptional events in our community."

The 2011 women’s basketball championship was awarded to Windsor on
Monday, while Calgary will host in 2012. Laval, McMaster, and Sherbrooke
will all play host to the women’s volleyball championship before it
comes to Regina in 2014.

The two national championships will be the eighth and ninth that the
University of Regina has hosted.

The U of R’s bid to host the CIS Men’s Hockey Championship in 2013 and
2014 was unsuccessful, as the University of Saskatchewan was awarded the
national tournament in both years.
