QUEBEC CITY – The three Quebec City teenagers accused of conspiracy to commit murder will stay detained at home.

The teens alleged to have planned a killing spree at their suburban school of Charlesbourg have been detained in a youth centre since last Wednesday. On Tuesday, Judge Judith Landry ruled the accused will have to remain under close parental supervision 24 hours a day, except during school hours.

They will be barred from using a computer, unless it is for homework, and even then, they will have to be closely supervised.

The teens – between the ages of 14 and 16 – are awaiting their trial. Details of their alleged plan to massacre as many students and teachers as possible was exposed on Facebook. It has since been removed from the web. The judge has issued a publication ban.

The Premières Seigneuries school board warns the students will not be welcomed back to École Le Sommet. Public relations representative Jean-François Parent says the teens will either have to change schools or be taught at home. In this particular case, home teaching would be the school board’s responsibility, not the parents’.

The mother of one of the accused told Global News her teen had been bullied at school and was simply expressing her frustration. Parent says if that’s the case, the parents should have alerted the school. Nothing in their files suggests they were victims of bullying.

In court, the families of the accused had to convince the judge they are responsible enough to get their children back. One of the accused, a 15-year-old boy, cried during his mother’s testimony.

The teens will be back in court in March.
