Heavy winds knocked out power to thousands of homes in Peterborough just after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Trees were uprooted and knocked over across the city, closing several roadways including Parkhill Road just west of Chemong, after a pair hydro poles were draped over and dangled dangerous across the west bound lane.
The fire department and police closed Parkhill Road in the area of Donegal and Downie streets where a tree had split in half and bringing some hydro wires to the ground.
Utility crews were dispatched to locations across the city after Environment Canada clocked wind gusts between 50-60 kilometres an hour in the area.
As of 8:40 p.m., Peterborough Utilities reported power had been restored to approximately 3,700 customers south of Parkhill, McDonnel, Reid, Chiming Road, Hilliard and Langton streets.
Peterborough Utilities estimated by mid-evening that 2,700 customers were still without power throughout Peterborough and Lakefield, and says some customers may be without power overnight as hydro crews continue to work through the many issues caused by the storm.
