The goal is to create a mobile grocery truck, capable of selling fresh food at affordable price in areas with few other options.

“We know that people have lower rates of consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, diary is expensive in this area because often times it’s not available at a grocery store where grocery stores are few and far between,” CHEP Good Food executive director Yvonne Hanson said.
“So what we want to be able to do is have a mobile unit, like a fresh food truck, that would go set up at different points throughout the week, where people would know that fresh food truck was there.”

Hanson said she hopes people get behind their idea, which has been demonstrated in other cities like Toronto and Halifax.
“Healthy food is an important thing. All people have basic human rights to healthy food and I think that what we’re trying to represent through this fresh food vehicle is that nobody where you live, you should have access to healthy food,” Hanson said.
Over the next eight days, people can log on to AVIVA’s website and vote up to 18 times for the 500-plus competitors. Voting closes on Oct. 19.
