Canada’s 150th birthday may have passed but a year’s worth of celebrations continued in London on Wednesday.

ParticipACTION, a national push to get Canadians more active, took its Canada-wide tour ‘Play List 150’ to Victoria Park with several activity and information stations designed to get Canadians moving.

“Play List 150, the 150 is for 150 years of Canada, so it’s Canada’s celebration,” ParticipACTION Team Lead for East team Maude Boivin explained to AM980.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

“We created a list of 150 activities that define us as Canadians. Last year, Canadians voted on those activities, and we’re just challenging Canadians to try as many as they can during the year and they can win great prizes.”

Several tents were set up for the rain-or-shine event, with different activities at each station.

“We try to have sports that incorporate people with disabilities. We also have housework because it doesn’t have to be a sport,” Boivin added.

ParticipACTION also partnered with the local initiative in motion, which pushes Londoners to log as many minutes of activity as they can in the month of October.

Recreation Supervisor with the City of London Karen Dillane explained that ParticipACTION approached the city, and they believed it would be a perfect fit.

“We’ve (also) invited our community partners from in motion to be here to help support the event and run activities. We have VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) here, we have London Children’s Museum, we have the Arthritis Society, we also have the London Public Library as well. These are all our partners, and we’ve brought in some extras. We have the wheelchair boccia community as well as Curling Canada.”

The ParticipACTION Play List 150 event in Victoria Park went from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
