The City of Hamilton has announced the five development teams that will compete for the right to develop the Pier 8 lands.
Project Manager Chris Phillips says each of the shortlisted teams “has a proven track record of executing major, urban revitalization projects.”
Phillips says that is important since Pier 8 has some “very unique characteristics”, mid-rise in height, mixed-use in nature and adjacent to a promenade park.
The next phase of the process will involve development concept proposals, “similar to what was done in the park design contest”, as well as financial bids detailing the price that they’d be willing to pay for the land.
Plans call for 1,500 residential units and 13,000 square metres of commercial and institutional space on Pier 8.
The request for proposal process is expected to wrap up next spring, with the naming of the chosen developer.
