Police have charged a man in connection with a string of bank robberies in Calgary.
In a media release Tuesday, police said the suspect was arrested for an “unrelated theft in the downtown core.”
As they were arresting the man, officers realized he matched the description of a suspect believed to be responsible for five bank robberies that happened between Aug. 28 and Sept. 25.
The first happened at about 5:40 p.m. at an ATB location in the 1300 block of Macleod Trail S.W.
On Sept. 14, at about 5:10 p.m., a TD Canada Trust in the 700 block of 3 Street S.W. was robbed. Four days later around the same time, on Sept. 18, a second TD Canada Trust on Dalhousie Drive N.W. was targeted.
That was followed by a Scotiabank location in the 7700 block of 18 Street S.E., on Sept. 21, and a CIBC location in the 300 block of 8 Avenue S.W. at 4:50 p.m. on Sept. 25.
William Joseph Weatherbee, 30, faces five counts of robbery, as well as charges of theft under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of other drugs.
He is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday.
