Students at Roger Neilson Public School said ‘au revoir’ to the teacher’s pet on Tuesday morning in Peterborough.

Over the weekend, Grade 4 teacher Franco Mattiucci discovered a tiny mouse in his house. And he contemplated keeping the rodent as a new family pet.

“My kids wanted me to keep him and so I had plans on buying a cage and everything needed,” said Mattiucci.

“But then I was told I should not keep a wild mouse because of the potential danger for health.”

The core French teacher relayed the story to his students on Monday and they reached a resolution for the rodent.

“We decided to release the mouse here in the wild, near the school,” said Mattiucci.

And the furry grey critter received a fitting name from the French class before he was set free near the Erkine Avenue school in the city’s south end.

“It didn’t have a name until I showed him to the students this morning,” said Mattiucci. “So we with went ‘Monsieur’…that’s French for ‘Mister.’
