Winnipeg pedestrian dead after Highway 8 collision

A 22-year-old man from Winnipeg is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Highway 8 near the RM of St. Andrews.

Selkirk RCMP responded to the fatal collision just after 2 a.m. on Sunday after reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian.

Investigators believe the Winnipeg man was walking northbound on Highway 8 when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

The pedestrian was wearing dark pants and a dark shirt.

RCMP believe the driver, a 47-year-old male from the Teulon area, was not impaired and said speed was not a factor. He was taken to hospital along with two passengers, a 44-year-old woman and their 3-year-old daughter, with non-life threatening injuries.

Selkirk RCMP and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate. No charges have been laid.
