Damage at Saskatoon apartment fire estimated at $80K

Saskatoon firefighters battled an apartment fire in the City Park neighbourhood on Saturday.

Several 911 calls reported the blaze at around 9 a.m. CT.

Firefighters arrived at 733 5th Ave. North to find the building’s fire alarm sounding and heavy black smoke coming from a main level suite on the northeast corner.

The Saskatoon Fire Department said the blaze was contained to the involved suite and brought under control in less than 20 minutes.

Everyone from the building had evacuated prior to crews arriving. Firefighters ensured carbon monoxide levels were normal before tenants were allowed back to their suites.
