Laval police investigating set of suspicious fires

Police are investigating two separate fires in Laval that have been described as suspicious.

The first fire broke out at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, in a hair salon on des Laurentides Boulevard.

After putting out the blaze, firefighters discovered certain unspecified elements that were deemed suspicious, police said.

No one was injured, but the building was heavily damaged.

“We can say it’s a total loss,” said Laval police spokesperson Michel Lamarre.

The second fire being investigated by police, happened in Laval-Ouest in a home under construction on 15 Avenue.

The blaze broke out at 1 a.m. on Saturday, and quickly spread to a nearby house.

Lamarre said no one was injured, but several neighbouring houses were evacuated.

According to police, the building under construction was destroyed, as was the home next door.

The cause of both fires are under investigation.

Lamarre said there have been no arrests.
