Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is rising on Oct. 1.
The minimum wage is going up 2.2 per cent, from $10.72 an hour to $10.96 an hour.

The increase is calculated on a weighted average of the percentage change in the consumer price index and the average hourly wage for Saskatchewan during the previous year.

Minimum wage increases are announced by June 30 of each year and take effect on Oct. 1.
Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said indexing, which was introduced in 2010, creates consistency and predictability for employers and workers.

Nearly 50,000 workers in Saskatchewan make minimum wage or are low-wage earners, 62 per cent who are woman and 35 per cent youth between the ages of 15 and 19.
Nearly one-third of low-wage earners are students.
