Ajax girl uses code word to thwart abduction attempt

Durham Regional Police are investigating after a 10-year-old Ajax girl was approached by a man who attempted to lure her to his vehicle on Monday.

Police said the girl was waiting at Applecroft Public School for her parents to pick her up at around 3:25 p.m. ET when a man approached her and said her parents had sent him.

The man tried to get her to come to his car where a young woman was sitting in the passenger seat.

The girl asked him for a prearranged code word her parents had given her and when he got the wrong word she walked away.

She found her parents shortly after and told them about the incident.

The man is described as a white male with a medium build. He was unshaven and wearing a grey hat, blue scarf and green jacket with red and black high-top sneakers.
