Toronto police have identified an outstanding suspect wanted after a “high-risk” takedown involving two males believed to be brandishing firearms in the Leaside area.

The incident, which is being investigated by Ontario’s police watchdog the Special Investigations Unit, revealed that officers attempted to stop a car westbound on Eglinton Avenue East at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle eventually crashed into a light standard on Eglinton at Rumsey Road.

At the time, Toronto police said it was believed one of the occupants of the vehicle may have been in possession of a firearm.

“We had a high-risk takedown of men we believe may have had guns,” Hopkinson told AM640.

“There was a small collision and one of the men were apprehended by officers while the other suspect escaped. We believe that man may be armed.”
