1 dead, 3 others injured after 3-vehicle crash in north Etobicoke

A man in his 50s is dead and three others were injured following a three-vehicle crash in north Etobicoke.

The incident happened after 6 a.m. Friday near Steeles Avenue and Highway 27 just north of Albion Road and south of Highway 407.

Toronto police said the crash involved a dump truck and two other vehicles.

Const. Clint Stibbe said a white Acura with three occupants inside was traveling westbound on Steeles approaching Hwy. 27 when it came into contact with a dump truck that was making a left-hand turn into a construction area.

“The vehicles veered into the eastbound lanes striking a Honda Civic and came to a rest,” Stibbe said.

Toronto EMS said the male passenger inside the Acura was found without vital signs and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other occupants of the Acura, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 20s, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The male occupant of the Honda Civic suffered minor injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

“Currently we are looking at speed as a factor in the collision,” Stibbe said. “But we are also looking at other situations that may have arisen as a result of the collision.”

Police said the deceased may not have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

“It appears that person may not have been wearing a seat belt in the back of the vehicle,” Stibbe said.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or was in the area during the incident to come forward.
