Ontario’s police watchdog is appealing for witnesses after a police-involved shooting in Toronto’s west end Thursday morning.
Toronto police said they responded to a call at 9:13 a.m. in the area of Driftwood Avenue and Cobbler Crescent, near the Jane Street and Finch Avenue area.
Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said two men were involved in an altercation and one person was stabbed. A police officer had then discharged his firearm and shot the stabbing suspect, a 26-year-old man.
An update from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Thursday afternoon said the condition of both men was listed as non-life-threatening. The stabbing victim is believed to be 60 years old.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Eleven investigators and four forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. Police said Thursday evening that investigators had also designated one subject officer and one witness officer.
