Heat records broken in western Saskatchewan

A few places in western Saskatchewan set new record-high temperatures on Friday, according to preliminary numbers from Environment Canada. File / Global News

Environment Canada said an upper ridge of high pressure over the Prairies resulted in some new record-high temperatures in parts of western Saskatchewan on Friday, according to preliminary numbers.

Kindersley reached 34.8 C to break its old record of 33.2 C, which was set in 2011.

A new record of 32.2 C was set in Meadow Lake. The highest temperature recorded in the city previously was 31.5 C in 1981.

Lastly, North Battleford beat its old record of 33 C, which was set in 1981, with 33.8 C on Friday.

Some areas of southern Saskatchewan are still under a heat warning.
