The BC Liberals have decided to remove an Abbotsford MLA from the party after he decided to take on the role to become Speaker of the Legislature.

In a statement, the party says they are unhappy with Darryl Plecas’ decision and pride themselves on working hard together.

Global News’ Chief Legislative Bureau Chief Keith Baldrey thinks the Speaker could find it difficult in his new position.

“Plecas may find life very difficult in the BC Legislature. The Liberals have no respect for him. In fact, they have outright contempt for him. And on a personal level, it’s going to be interesting if the emotions continue to run high for any length of time, Plecas may find it very difficult to perform and to enjoy his role as Speaker.”

With Plecas as Speaker, both the New Democrats and Liberals have 41 seats each with the Green Party holding the remaining three.
