Winnipeg police are warning the public about a convicted sex offender being released from Stony Mountain Institution Friday.

Police say he is at a high-risk to reoffend sexually and that girls are at risk.

William Rupert Astle served a four-year sentence for indecent exposure to a person under 16, and failing to comply with his probation order.

The 81-year-old is expected to live in Winnipeg.

His first recorded criminal offence for indecent assault happened in 1969. He was previously convicted for sexual interference over a 10-year period involving a girl from 1990 – 2000.

He was also sentenced for multiple incidents of masturbating in public and exposing himself to young girls.

His most recent offence happened in February 2014 when police say he exposed himself to a 9-year-old girl at a Walmart store in Winnipeg before fondling himself. Police say when he was arrested he said he would have liked to touch the 9-year-old girl between her legs, but she ran away.
