North Edmonton businesses vandalised, woman arrested

It was a tough start to the day on Friday for some business owners in a northeast Edmonton neighbourhood.

The windows of a number of businesses in Highlands were smashed overnight.

Edmonton police said they received a report at around 2:50 a.m. of a woman smashing windows with a blunt object in the area of 65 Street and 112 Avenue.

Police said they found the suspect and took her into custody.

It doesn’t appear anything was stolen, but it did make for a big cleanup for the businesses vandalised.

“There’s just a lot of glass everywhere. Every business on our block had their windows broken,” local business owner Lianne Traynor said.

Police believe drugs or alcohol were likely factors in the incident.

Charges are pending against the 36-years-old woman.
