Calmer winds are helping firefighters battling the Finlay Creek wildfire between Peachland and Summerland, but there is concern that stronger winds in the next few days will make the fire more volatile.
The fire is now estimated to be 1,300 hectares and is only 15 per cent contained. It’s burning in steep terrain, particularly on the northern flank.
The southern flank remains particularly active.
Structural firefighters are assessing the southern flank of the fire and are setting up equipment on high priority properties.
There has not been significant rainfall in the Finlay Creek area in over 12 weeks.
Hot and dry conditions are expected to remain a challenge over the coming days.
There is currently no rainfall in the forecast and winds continue to create unpredictable fire behaviour.
