Toronto police have released surveillance images of a car that followed Jovane Clarke from his Etobicoke home to North York Sheridan Mall where he was fatally shot in a “targeted attack” last Thursday.
Staff Sgt. Mike Carbone told reporters Wednesday morning that Clarke drove his vehicle from his home in the Tandridge Crescent area to the mall, near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue, around 5:20 p.m.
Carbone said Clarke conducted some business in the mall and upon returning to his vehicle, four male suspects approached him and began shooting.

Security footage from a business inside the mall and obtained by Global News shows the victim being pursued by the suspect as mallgoers are seen fleeing into nearby shops.
The video appears to show the suspect running after the victim, who eventually collapses to the ground. The suspect is then seen in the footage running out of the mall.
“Multiple shots were fired in the parking lot and mall, in what can be described as an overkill,” said Carbone, who said it is still unclear why Clarke was targeted.
Police said Friday Clarke was not previously known to police and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clarke’s mother, Althea McDonald, told Global News her son was at the mall to get tax papers from an accountant and was supposed to pick up his girlfriend before returning home.
Investigators said the vehicle was in the Tandridge Crescent area for around an hour prior to the shooting. Police described all four suspects as males in their mid-20s and wearing dark clothing.
Police are appealing to the public for help in identifying the four-door vehicle or anyone who may have cellphone or dash camera video from the time of the shooting to come forward.

The incident happened just days before another fatal shooting in the Tandridge Crescent area.
Awad Hurre, 34, was gunned down Saturday night by four suspects who were seen fleeing in a silver vehicle.
Carbone said a connection between the two is “something we are considering,” but based on the information so far, investigators aren’t linking the two.
