Summer vacation ends for Saskatoon students as school year starts

Summer vacation is over for Saskatoon students as they return to the classroom on Tuesday.

Saskatoon Public Schools‘ elementary students will attend classes for the morning only, with full class days starting Wednesday.

High school students in the public system have a full day of classes.

All students attending classes in the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools division have a full day of school on Tuesday.

Tuesday will also mark the opening of four new joint-use schools in the city.

Saskatoon police have also issued a warning that school zone speed limits are now in place.

Speed limits around schools are 30 km/h between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday including stat holidays.

Fines for speeding in school zones start at $210.

Police said they will be out in force during the first week to nab speeders and will have enforcement measures in place throughout the school year, including photo radar in some locations.
