A Georgia school district is apologizing after a high school math teacher was filmed on video asking two students to leave class because they were wearing shirts bearing the slogan “Make America Great Again.”
Video of the incident appears to show the teacher telling the students that they cannot wear shirts with the slogan, associated with U.S. President Donald Trump‘s election campaign, much like they’re not allowed to wear a swastika, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
“Please go at least for this class,” the teacher says while pointing to the door. “I don’t care what you do in other classes, but in my class…”

On Sunday, the Cherokee County school district said the teacher was in the wrong because the students’ shirts did not violate school dress code. Authorities didn’t say whether she will face disciplinary action.
Republican lawmakers slammed the teacher, whose name hasn’t been released to the public.
“It’s ironic to me that the political left claims to promote free speech, but then attempts to silence conservative free speech,” Rep. John Carson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“That’s so wrong on so many levels. That individual doesn’t need to be anywhere near a classroom ever again,” Rep. Earl Ehrhart said.
The school superintendent met with and apologized to the students and their families, WSB-TV reported.
