Two new Saskatoon elementary schools built under the joint-use schools project are set to open next week in Hampton Village.

Saint Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic School has about 400 students enrolled for the 2017-18 school year and just under 600 students are expected at Ernest Lindner School.

“There are students coming to this school from 15 of our other schools,” Morrison said.

“(Those schools) will have an opportunity to reinvent themselves now that they will have some classroom space back.”

The new schools combine classroom space with common areas for both students and staff.

They include indoor and outdoor learning spaces, along with motion sensor LED lights.

Morrison said the schools were designed to be open to the community, students and staff.

“Just the openness, the airiness, the brightness, the sunlight, the great gym spaces, the stairwells, the great learning spaces that are here for every age group and every class are phenomenal pieces,” Morrison said.

Under the joint-use schools program, 18 new schools are set to open this year in Saskatchewan.
