Edmonton election 2017: Mike Nickel wins Ward 11

Mike Nickel will once again be representing residents in southeast Edmonton after he was re-elected in Ward 11 on Monday night.

Nickel first won a seat on council in 2004. Unofficial results showed he had secured 56 per cent of the vote in Ward 11, with 21 of 22 polls reporting.

Brandy Burdeniuk

Brandy Burdeniuk is the co-founder of EcoAmmo and has worked in the construction industry for more than a decade. She said her positivity, vision and love of challenging work makes her an excellent candidate for Ward 11.

Chris Christianson

Chris Christianson would like to see more transparency when it comes to the current tax system and how tax money is being used.

Mike Nickel

Mike Nickel first won a seat on Edmonton City Council in 2004. After a brief hiatus, he was once again elected to council in 2013. His main focus is that Edmontonians get the maximum value for their tax dollars.

Troy Pavlek

Troy Pavlek is a software developer who said he will bring youthful, data-focused perspectives to council. His platform includes having more open data available, reforming photo radar, building better and more affordable infill, lowering the residential speed limit to 40 km/h, and re-thinking the Vision Zero initiative.

Keren Tang

Keren Tang is a teacher and community organizer who currently works as the president of the Edmonton Multicultural Coalition. She said Ward 11 is in a state of change, with one of the major changes being the Valley Line LRT construction. Tang said this provides an opportunity for residents to voice their opinion on neighbourhood revitalization, community development and stronger social connections.

In total, 13 people are running for mayor and there are 70 candidates for city council. Twenty people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, while 28 people are running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees (including one acclamation).

Election day is Monday, Oct. 16.
