Ben Henderson has been re-elected as an Edmonton city councillor for Ward 8, according to unofficial election results.
Henderson has been a city councillor since 2007.
Here’s a quick look at the candidates running in Ward 8:
Rob Bernshaw
Rob Bernshaw said he is committed to respecting taxpayer dollars and having regular town hall meetings in Ward 8. He wants to push for more open-door meetings between the public and council.

Kirsten Goa
Kirsten Goa has served on many non-profit boards over the past 25 years and was co-chair of the city’s Council Initiative on Public Engagement. She said councillors should take leadership on public engagement and wants to see urban design principles incorporated into decisions.

Ben Henderson was elected to council in 2007. He prides himself for having pushed for accelerated LRT expansion, fighting for Edmonton’s new walkability plan and passing the city’s neighbourhood renewal fund.

James Kosowan
James Kosowan has served on both the Bonnie Doon and Strathearn community leagues. He wants communities to have a meaningful say on how development occurs in their area. He is also focused on protecting the city’s green space and improving public transit and the city’s bicycle network.

Eli Schrader
Eli Schrader has worked for the past several years developing new programs at the Bissell Centre. He said community engagement is at the heart of his campaign and is asking residents to weigh in before outlining his platform.

Heather Workman
Heather Workman is a resident of Ward 8 who said she will offer fresh ideas while preserving the character and potential of all people.

In total, 13 people are running for mayor and there are 70 candidates for city council. Twenty people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, while 28 people are running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees (including one acclamation).
Election day is Monday, Oct. 16.
