Meet Edmonton’s weed-eating goats at Rundle Park

The City of Edmonton has announced two Saturdays during which people can see the team of weed-eating goats in action at Rundle Park.

The two “Meet and Bleat” events will be held on Aug. 19 and Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

City staff will be on hand to talk about parkland management, including weed control, pest management and urban forestry.

There will also be crafts, games and other activities.

The city is asking the public to follow these safety tips:

• Don’t feed the goats. They have enough leafy spurge and other noxious weeds to munch on.
• Don’t bring large groups to view the goats. They are spooked by large crowds and loud noises.
• Try to abstain from bringing pets. There will be herding dogs off-leash and working but they are trained to protect and herd the goats. They are very protective with their goats so they will bark at any strange dogs approaching the herd. Keep any pets on a leash.
• Avoid stopping your vehicle on Rundle Park Road. To view the goats, park in a nearby lot.
• Don’t pet the goats without permission from the shepherd.
