The Lake Shore is set to become a sea of colour and music this weekend. For the 50th year, Toronto Caribbean Carnival brings a taste of the islands to Toronto. Caryn Lieberman tees up the excitement ahead – Aug 4, 2017

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grande Parade, the biggest event of the 50th annual festival, takes place on Lake Shore Boulevard on Saturday.

Heavy traffic in the downtown area is anticipated and road closures are in effect, as organizers expect more than a million people to take in the festivities. The parade runs from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting from Exhibition Place at British Columbia Road.

  • Lake Shore Boulevard West will be closed in both directions from Colborne Lodge Drive to Strachan Avenue from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday until Sunday at 6 a.m.
  • There will be no access to the Jameson/Dunn on-ramps to the Gardiner Expressway and the off-ramps will also be closed.
  • Several TTC routes, including the Bathurst and Harbourfront streetcars and Dufferin and Ossington buses, will have extra service. An express bus to Exhibition will be running from Dundas West Station.

  • Several streets will have restricted vehicle access after midnight on Saturday, including Dufferin Street and Dowling Avenue (south of King), Queen’s Quay west of Bathurst, Stadium Road south of Lake Shore and Springhurst Avenue.
  • In addition to the festivities along the lake, the Senhor da Pedra Festival is taking place on Grace Street this weekend. It will be closed from Mansfield Avenue to Dundas Street West on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
