Kawartha region now under a flood watch

Otonabee Conservation has issued a flood watch for the city and county of Peterborough, Ont., in advance of a string of thunderstorm activity expected to wash through the area.

According to the conservation authority, severe thunderstorms are moving slowly eastwards bringing with them as much as 100 millimetres of rain, particularly for areas that experience two storms in a row.

Flash flooding is possible, and while flooding is not expected along the Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River or Rice Lake, the public is advised to avoid activities near rivers and creeks.

The flood watch remains in effect until Thursday, August 3, at 8 a.m.
