Matthew Green is looking to have the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) take the helm for the operation of LRT.

Hamilton’s Ward 3 councillor is putting forward a motion for the General Issues Committee meeting on Monday, July 10.

It will ask Metrolinx to let HSR operate and maintain the $1-billion transit system.

If council agrees, the city will ask Metrolinx to make the provision part of the binding master agreement that’s due before the end of the year.

“Public transit is a public service and Metrolinx’s current process only provides for bids in a privatized system,” Green said in a release. “With this motion I’m looking to include options that our public system stays public for everyone.”
